Ghantewala is a great destination for anybody visiting Delhi who wishes to get a taste of a more traditional culinary experience whilst they are in the city. For those who are unaware, a ‘Halwai’ is the name for traditional sweet shops in India and the Ghantewala Halwai is one of our nation’s oldest, with its roots stretching as far back as the 1700s. Through its history, Ghantewala Halwai has served sweets to the Mughal Emperors, Presidents and Prime Ministers of India as well as everyday residents and visitors to Delhi. Their Sohan Halwa is renowned all throughout the subcontinent; even as far away as the Middle East, as the finest in the world. Their Jalebi, Chikki and coconut Barfis are personal favourites of mine.
